FJ40 - failed WoF shopping and request for comments

Post by williamhamilton »

'75 FJ40 283V8 etc etc
failed a few things.. found some mods not certified and had not been picked up in previous inspections.. bugger!!

while some things need fixed I thought I may as well price up and source bits for the list of mods I would be interested in doing (one cert fee.. being Scots that does matter :)

Failed
Rear is out of alignment - mounts broken and so off it is stressing the srprings and hangers (WHO THE F*&K did that!!!! - reminder to contact previous owner and give them a bollocking for telling me porkies)
WTD:rear full floater, potential new hangers made, update my springs??? <-- comments wanted

Failed
RR Indicator.. I am sure I can sort that one myself!

Failed
small crack in exhaust - one minute to weld so will need to pay a visit to a friendly welder or bite the bullet and finally get myself one

Failed
L/H steering joint loose
WTD: replacement/repair

Result
Where I would like to get to is...
35" tires (shackle extension seems expedient way to get there along with some sabre saw action on the rear guards)
Power steering - so many options.. Taz01 you mentioned early this year you may have had something that would suit? Anyone else?
Future for difflocker - refer fullfloater above

What else should I seriously be considering at this stage.. money as always is a concern so keep it based in reality please :)

If you're looking for a full floater - go for a 60 series and get the extra width for better stability. You'll need to grind off and re-weld the spring perches on the axle, but it's not a big job & should be easy to get certed.

You want to think seriously about buying gazza's cruiser, you'll have all the spares you'll ever need for just over a grand

My one has wicked spring hangers front and rear they open up to allow more travel. told they are expensive. If you ask nicely i,m sure jerry could pop round and take pics for you. Plus the rear axle is a fully floater And the front is converted to disc brakes. Plus is full time lpg with tank hoses regulator ect ect ect
NO one remembers who comes 2nd....!
