Cruiser Full Floating bits

Post by fweddy »

Needing a set of 6 studs, cone washers, spring washers and nuts if any one can help

The other day I noticed I had a leak out the rear hub. Checked the hub bolts and a few loose, one broke while tightening, kept the cone washer, spring washer and nut. After my trip last Sunday I noticed another was broken and missing, Today I went to test out my locker and heard a cracking-bang noise, locker has been making funny noises, kept driving and looked at rear wheel and my axle is sticking out - all the studs have broken off! :x

I've just been working on getting the broken bits out and have so far got 5 and one dowel, still got part of a dowel and one stubborn stud to go - Its now got the tip of an easy out snapped off in it, I eventually managed to get around that and made a nice hole and then the drill bit broke so I have a tip of a dill bit in there too!

Any way I need replacement studs etc if any one has any available or knows a good source.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

hi

Re-drill the six holes in the hub to take new stubs, index around 15 deg to miss existing holes, will allow new dowel pins as well.

I managed to shear the bolts and dowel pins off at the Auckland trial, i have drilled the 8mm studs out and redrilled and tapped for M10 Cap screws, hopefully they will hold, if the six don't hold then 12 will!!!!

Did you still run with the cone washer idea? I guess they are there to take up any slack to stop sheering. If not did you drill new holes in the axle flange?

hi

nope no tapers, just drilled the taper holes out to 10mm, i guess you are correct about the taper staking up the slack, at the end of the day i think it is more the friction of the surfaces bolted together rather than the bolts themselves providing the drive. i had drilled one side already that was giving me grief, i then sheared the other side off that was no issues go figure

cheer

Re: Cruiser Full Floating hub

Still keen on a hub. I'm going to try something this weekend but if that fails I'm going to replace the whole hub and see what that does.

So one full floating hub from 40/50/60/70 series cruiser. May consider complete 70 series diff - North Island not a problem as my father will be up there in Aug.

Hi Sig

Keen on that. Can you just check the hubs are in ok condition, mainly the stud holes aren't slogged.

I'm guessing 40s are the same as 70s - I understand they are.

Is it possible to get one of the hubs pulled off and sent to me so I can get mobile and I'll get the rest of the diff out of your road next month - unless some one else wants some of it? Its really only the hubs I want.

Hi Sig, If youve still got the full floater Id be interested in it minus the Hub that fweddy wants.
