Rob has always been a 1UZ-Surf fan.
Although I giggled when I saw it had an HKS air filter plus a snorkel

I think there's an old thread about that truck on here, the pictures taken inside the old G Guy Motors building?
Re: Hope no-one was hoping this to stay hidden
Looks ok, and quite capable etc, but what kind of probs can swapping the engine to a non standard engine cause?
Might be interested if I wasnt going to be a headache to register and WOF etc.
Infared paint might help for the next time those reality police programs try to chase me in their helicopters after I commit murder or some big drug deal etc..

Doesn't mean the paint job is bad, just means it doesn't stick to crappy plastic too well, but auto salon? Why would you enter it

The water should be draining out of your airbox before it goes through the filter, mine has a one way valve and drain cup at the bottom

I am assuming by the above you've made a homebrew snorkel...
see viewtopic.php?f=46&t=10064&start=60#p170712
for details of what I did to catch the water.

Yep, once in a while as a part of my normal checks. I am in and out of rivers a lot so my normal checks are propbably more regular than others. I have driven in torrential rain for a few hours with a normal safari snorkel scoop (on top of a custom 3" exharst tube snorkel) and still only emptied less that a cup of water from it. Don't like having those duck bill water release things as I saw one once block with mud (damp dust) and then when crossing a river it let water up into the airbox body. The guy didn't maintain it well enough I guess but I still dont like them .

Yep, a pretty standard plumbing fitting. Used in large waste pipelines for sh!t etc. Bunnings or mitre10 should have one. I bought it along with a few other plumbing fittings for around the house etc so cannot remember what it was worth. As far as doing the job intended, whatever I spent was money well spent. Don't regret it. Word of advice though. The lid section is a separate section needing gluing on. Once you have the fitting and lid section you can glue the lid on any end to suit the flow of the snorkel. Also, If you are putting it into a tight spot, the o-ring is a serious piece of rubber and can be hard to undo if you are tight on elbow room.

Re: Hope no-one was hoping this to stay hidden
the guy that built this is quite well known in nz 'boyracer' circles, plus hes in the high octane dvd,(also ran grd-nz) cant remember the number, but its his evo they use as the chase car while theyre testing some of the jap tuning shops cars, one of the shots shows the camera catching fire in the back of his evo lol.
he spent friggn thousands and thousands on the hilex... from memory the project was crippled with bad luck and dodgy suppliers and shit, but apparently was a damn weapon when even just semi sorted.
