80 Series Tie Rod length

Post by Andrew1706 »

Hey guys,

I've got an 80 Series with a bent tie rod and I'm looking for some factory measurements to make sure I get the right replacement.

At the moment it's measuring 48" eye to eye roughly, could someone check against their trucks?

Cheers

That's the plan, also get a hi-steer kit for my project truck as well.

But I don't want to send him a bent measurement...

Hmmmmm, is that right...

Just had a friend get a replacement second hand and it cost him over $300!

For that price I'll get a custom one made but if it isn't that bad for OEM then might as well.

Well, certain parts are and certain parts aren't

Cheers anyway, I'm out of civilisation for a while so having a part number would be great.

hi there i dont want to add any congfusion here ...but... my brother in law has a bit of 80 gear store at my place and he has a rod... it measures 1235 center to center of ball but... i dont know weather it is the steering link arm or the tie rod arm... so...measure your own steering link and ifs that similar to 1235 then please forget i ever mentioned it.... otherwise if your steering link is a lot differant to 1235 then it could well be the measurement you are after :? :? ...i hope thats not to confusing as i think i got lost myself half way thru

cheers mudlva

About 1225mm (84.25")

Thats measured in the dark under the truck in the rain with one person and a tape measure, so +/- 5mm

Well I went into Toyota today to ask about the rods, complete rear was $40 and complete front was $970.

:?

Rear rod with rod ends was $40 but just the rod itself was $330

:?

Toyota pricing error means I get a complete rear rod for $40 instead of the $700 odd retail and complete front rod for $260 instead of the $970 retail plus gst.

Really need to find some contacts with trade discounts

(all prices plus GST)

You were the one that said people who didnt wanna pay for OEM annoyed you and that they were only $53.10

$970 for a tie rod and ends? No thanks, it seemed as though the button pusher knew what he was doing too.

The next lot will be custom made anyway.
