A Q for the hilux know alls

looking at a 1986 single cab flat deck 2litre petrol motor, has no power steering, has a lift kit installed but otherwise stock, are adapter kits easy enough to get for a commy v6 conversion for this model??

also can power steering be adapted somehow from the v6 and maybe some surf gear??

Powersteering can definately be adapted to a surf box, that's what i'm running. Quite a few adaptor kits available from aussie for the commy and i think Chopper? Can get commy auto to lux transfer cheap (remember someone offering me one cheap). I've got a 91 surf vzn130 with all the powersteering bits and rods if you want as well for sale.

well that sounds good, going to check out the ute on monday so will defiantly be keen now, just see how it is, look out for rust and stuff, where are they prone to rusting??

Check in the footwell where the little fuse panel is on both sides. Just noticed when i was doing body swap that it was quite rusted and easy to push with my finger. Also my last surf was really badly rusted down there as well. Don't know if they're prone to rusting there or i was just unfortunate. This was in an 84 and an 85 surf. Mine started to leak really badly as well just before i pulled it off, think it was coming in around the windscreen

Why the commy V6 petrol and not a diesel
I ran a supra in my lux for 5yrs (was a painful experience), i've recently helped a friend do an engine swap in a comilux that fawked out on the first trip out, he's since replaced it again, yeah thats 3 commodore motors within a year.
They're readily available, and cheap but reasonably expensive to run, water isn't their friend, and they chew rear main seals out something chronic.
If I was considering a repower B4 purchasing a truck I would buy something with the motor in it you already want, and diesel in NZ unless you're competing is your friend.

That usually happens when the air vent area below the windscreen gets blocked with dirt and leaves etc causing the water to get trapped in there and not run out the drain holes infront of the doors, This then causes the water to run in front the firewall area and into the cab then eventually rusting out both drivers and passenger floor areas also.

yeah i know about diesels being good, i run a safari, but was sort of looking for a bit of winch truck i could make up, it wouldn't be the serious winch comp but maybe something suited to the club class they are getting going.
