Just looked at a nice prado with good price but it is a petrol (3.4 quad cam V6) was looking for a diesel but am intrigued as to the difference in running costs (if this is cheap enough, would offset cost of buying a diesel).
So toyota diesel (3 litre intercooled turbo) or petrol (3.4litre V6)?
How much more will a petrol cost to run on average per km?
Anyone with either able to put up some figures for comparison?

over time they are about even between diesel and petrol one you pay higher fuel costs the other lower fuel costs but higher servicing costs

I just bought a petrol VX Cruiser because the Diesel ones are so much more expensive to buy. After RUC I reckon Petrol doesn't cost that much more to run.

Hi Heath, I to have been doing the same LOOOOOOOOOOKING, the sums I have from a friend who has had Petrol and Diesel Pajeros and has kept a log book indicate that the Petrol was 30% more expensive in fuel costs than the Diesel. Calculate into that = about figures of RUC $600 per year and increasing, Diesel Rego; $130 per yr more than Petrol, Servicing, Diesel 5000km, Petrol 10000km. All these costs plus the Petrol's are anything up to $5000 cheaper to buy, Maybe the pendulum has swung.

What sort of price roughly did you pay? I'm in the market for a new wagon at the moment, and there are a few petrol VX's about, but not sure what a reasonable price to pay is, as diesels are too pricey for me.

i have had the 80 series with the 24v diesel turbo with intercooler, exhaust and k and n filter, still very pricey but for a very good reason, now have the 24v 4.5 petrol, (went for a petrol because i didnt want to wreck a nice wagon and the fuel injected 4.5 is more suited to the mods i want to do to it)these you can pick up with 250k's for 5kplus, performance wise they are miles ahead of the 4litre petrol and would be slightly quicker than the 24v diesel upto 60k's then the diesel would cruise on by, fuel wise, around 20 to 22 litres per 100k's around town

its a bugger when you think you have it sorted and then something unexpected comes along and screws with your Ideal vehicle set up.
A nice (okay not fantastic) condidtion 3.4 2000 prado LWB for 15k isnt to bad and it drives nice too. has ruined my plans for a nice diesel auto (pref manual but cant find one) SWB prado. Still would prefer a SWB but they are only 40cm's longer and not much heavier.
Mind you if I am going that big I may as well chase down an 80 series (back where I started from) and be done with it.

Drove fantastic. Heaps of pull in all gears, up bombay hill in 5th and didnt seem to labour at all. In fact if I put my foot down it would speed up and a mate behind me said there was little to no smoke at all. Just got a few issues to resolve and it'll be perfect (for me).

nice.manual ones are harder to find (but well worth the effort in my books)

manual is good for steep hills runs downs in first low no gas steps down nicely, which is why i got a manual safari

proverbial rocking horse poo it seems for a SWB prado diesel manual (yeah I know, now I'm going to hear about the trillions of them for sale right down the road).
This one came with an arb winch bar c/w 10000lb winch, slight lift and used muddies also. I was so sure someone else would buy it before I got there. So I looked at other options as well. Next on the list was a petrol v6 auto (glad I didnt have to settle for that one though).
I guess I am a manual type of guy. The autos were nice but...
Always been a petrol head and now it seems I am joining the oil burners for a while.
