shackle or body lift?
shackle or body lift?
i wana do i little lift just to stop the minimal rubbing on front when flexing...
ive got 35mm longer rear shackles, not yet fitted, so i could just buy front shackles to do a shackle lift.
Or should i do a 30mm body lift?????
people frown on both, but would be the beter option? i could sell the rear shackles easy enough, the price would be the same either way, apart from the cert for the body lift, but ill be doing other things before i cert the vehicle too......
i just wana quick fix for now, as in the future i wana do coons

I'm not a fan of body lifts as it adds little in offroad performance when compared to suspension lifts.
My vote would be for longer shackles.

do shackles change on road manners at all? or does everything stay relatively as is?

Since the you have got the rear shackles , i would get the front and then try it out.. and if you dont like it it is easyer to change it back , then change a body lift back...

Whatever your extra length is in your shackle is you only get half of it in actual lift coz one end of the spring stays in the fixed chassis pin so 35mm longer = 17.5mm lift.
If you put longer shackles on the front you change the axle housing geometry and your caster angle and can fark up your on road handling and steering

unless you put caster correction wedges in
throw some body lift blocks under it![]()

the rears i have are 70mm longer so thats 35mm lift..
yea i was thinking body lift so nothing changes with suspension and the geometry, but then i already have rear extended shackles...... hmmm

if you are happy with the current manners of the truck just do a body lift. I hate to say it but even with suspension lift and body lift you prob wont get rid of the rub in the front, when they flex up and the shackles push backwards the tyres hit in the rear of the guards only way to get rid of it is move the axle forward, I would say longer shackles could make the rub worse because then you have more swing and the axle can travel back further.
Body lift and sledge hammer for a start, think about moving the axle in the longer term.

sweet cheers for that, i am happy with its current setup, and only get minamal rubbing, and i only want to go as high as needed, maybe moving axle is on the to-do list, rears dont rub at all

yea the rear of them are fine you can chuck 36's on the rear with no drama its only if ya get your suspension working nicley and flexing well that you can get some rub and hit the tyres on the chasis, ya can always go the wide axle in the rear and run ifs hubs on the front to widen the track but thats getting a bit carried away at this stage.

personally id go 4 a body lift, i prefer 2 keep the chassis lower 4 better weight distribution tends 2 get a bit top heavy with massive shackles. ive done 6 inches on my ln61 body and its mint. still got good clearances at standard suspension height.

yep 6 inches. alot of people say phuck when they c it 2. its so much easier to work on now with the body right up. heaps cheaper than doin my suspension being independant with torsions

seems like gotflex has failed.
mine works fine, been raised 4 2 years now, no epic failing yet. spose it depends how its engineered

each to his own, the forum is for information not to criticize others, most of us choose to go for about a max of 2inches for a body lift for various reasons.
As i have said before there is only a certain amount of reading you can do before you have to go there your self and make your own mistakes and improvements.

I personally dont like body lifts, not only have i seen mounts break from the leverages etc, who want to see a chasis then 4" gap between the body
let alone legal issues

Good post up there Rangimotors

extended shackles are like bodylifts, a little bits ok but a lots going to create other problems. Any shackle lift means your only going to gain half the hight of the extended length so they can work ok if you only need minimal clearance

alright ive done a 30mm bodylift, which im happy as with, good amount of lift without going to high putting too much leverage on mounts/body.... contimplating doing the shackle lift too only cause I have rear shackles here so just need to buy fronts, need to replace bushes so thought may be a good time to fit new shackles.
I will get 35mm lift with the shackles i have, will this effect any of the geometry or driveline angles to the point where it will be a mod not worth doing?

Rubbing? Would it improve things to get a bigger offset on your rims such as a rim flip?
The steering lock on my 40 was shocking with 35's. Till I had a rim flip done. Now, no rubbing and I get full lock to lock.
