dual mass gearbox noise. HELP

Post by 1990ln1302.4 »

Have a 1990 ln130 2.4 surf. Have replaced dual mass with solid and new clutch. Now have horrible noise from gearbox at idle. Goes away when clutch pressed in. Worse when warm. Have checked oil level. Was not there before clutch replaced. Been told I have to live with it. Understand there is to be some increase gearbox chatter.. this sounds bldy horrible.. Any ideas???

Just a normal sound when a solid flywheel is fitted, does the noise stops when the clutch is disenguaged.

My Prado has the replacement solid flywheel and conventional sprung centred clutch. It does not make any unusual sounds at idle.

The only times I get harsh noises is if i try to lug the motor too much. Take it back and get then to look at it or take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

My wagon does that (1KZ-TE 3.0 diesel Prado). Worse when warm or hot, when cold and wet not a sound. Got a new clutch, flywheel changed to solid mass, new thrust bearing etc and it still makes the noise. I'm figuring it must be the input bearing, but thats only a guess. Noise goes away when I push in the clutch but not straight away like it winds down a bit before. Im shifting to a colder climte to fix the problem  .

If you find out what it is let me know so I can fix it. It's just annoying and my mechanic couldnt find what it was either, but we isolated it to the gearbox side of things.

My original Surf did the same when I put the solid flywheel in, mechanic said it was normal after getting rid of the dual mass, although mine was not a "horrible" noise, just sounded like a thrust bearing.

mine does the same . after changing to a solid flywheel.
Normal expected gear chatter that goes away with clutch in, but a winning rattly noise from the front of the gear box that is getting worse.
Im hopping it is just the thrust bearing and not the input bearing.
