LN130 with Prado coil SAS questions

Post by Mattman »

I have the opportunity to pick up a front chassis cut out of a 93 Prado.

This will provide the complete front axle (ratio unknown), arms, chassis mounts, steering bits, pretty much everything needed for a SAS into my LN130.

Any gotchas with using the Prado front diff? How easy are ratios and lockers to get for these diffs?

Cheers
Matt.

If its a 2.4TD model then you have probably just scored yourself a 4.88 high pinion 8" front diff, fully interchangeable with a standard 8" toyota diff from any Hilux / Hiace / etc...

The axle is pretty much a Hilux one but with coils and control arms... Have a friend who fitted that setup to his 130-series and its a very nice fit. He kept it low, and really only did the conversion for comfort while hunting up rivers etc. It looks factory to look at, until you get underneath... lots more travel and just as comfy as factory IFS.

Nice score...

They aren't actually exactly the same as a Hilux, apparently the diff head offset is slightly different so both axle lengths are different to Hilux, will eventually make replacement axles rare although Brian Howit can make stronger ones to suit

Actually, now you mention that it does ring a bell... odd tho, since the engine/gearbox is the same as a surf, therefor hilux... wonder why they did that...

Kind of odd for Mr Toyoda, hes normally so good at making everything go together nicely...

Give this dude a buzz:

Clayton 0272960125
I watched him slide one under his lux in two days.. drive in / out.

A side laugh to this was the guy who helped him works for a testing station and got Clayton to drive thru after the swap without telling the inspectors... they didn't spot the swap because it looked factory...

Clayton has good info on any tricks to make the job easier

tell em you got his number from Mike Holland :)
