I buy the ones from DSE part D4000, they are around 50 bucks and they are pretty durable in the bush, got a couple of spare ones here coz no doubt when I go to find a replacement one one day I wont be able to find any

Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
Hopefully they are a good unit. Brother is bring one back from oz for me
Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
I just ordered one from the same guy, but direct from his company:
http://www.marineelectricalsolutions.co.nz/webapps/site/76410/133505/shopping/shopping-view.html?pid=380111&b_id=&find_groupid=23146
Only $315 inc GST!!
I guess he has to charge extra on trademe to cover the fees.

Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
Got mine today, didn't even get charged for freight
I'm thinking of getting one of these aerials from dick smith:
http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/4bab00010268521c273fc0a87f3b0619/Product/View/D4000
Just wondering where the best place to mount it would be.
I'm thinking about half way along the right hand side of the bonnet?

I brought 1 of these earlierthis week..looks ok to me...the website says instructions are included....WRONG...& dont expect any help from DSE staff.
Im going to mount mine directly to the left hand guard just below my snorkel.
This aerial isdesigned to be earthed to the body if the vehicle.
The best place to put it would be the centre of the roof...this will ensure best its works best.
Putting in on the side of a panel ..as im doing will mean it will giver more signal out on the opposite side
Ie left guard.....more signal going to right hand side
mounted on bullbar....more signal to rear...but the body will block some rearwards.
Also this aerial is lowish gain ...which means it will work better in hilly terrain ...if you drive on the flat lots get an aerial of higher gain
Have a read of this....page 13 http://www.gme.net.au/public/pdf/brochures/land_b.pdf
they explain it better than me

I installed mine the other week.. goes really well.
Its great being so compact (about the size of my wallet ) made it easy to install as takes up very little room.....installed it in the little cubby hole just above ashtray & just below my radio.
Will put up apic tonight if i have time.
Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
I too installed one the other day with a GME antenea package but have not tested it properly yet.

Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
Do you know what sort of range they have?
Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
I was at the wharf at diamond harbour & talked to Al while he was near teddington.....no problem what so ever .
The range you get will vary hugely depending on
:the type of aerial you have
:where on your vehicle its mounted
:the direction your vehicle is facing
:the aerial amount of gain your aerial has (more isnt always better )
:the type of terrain your in (hilly / flat)
:& a million other things.

Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
just got around to taking mine out of the box. Cant possibly be any good, far too small. the size of a packet of cigarettes. seriously tho they are good value for money and can be mounted any where
Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
no a bit more solid mounting for the bits inside so the corragations donn't destroy them

Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
I got a question for those of you that have these installed and have been using them
firstly, where have you installed it
secondly, are you using the factory speaker on the unit
thirdly, is that factory speaker loud enough
cheers

When I sorted out the bulk buy for our club one of the important things was that all the dodgy old buggers with poor hearing could hear it well. The 3100 can be mounted upside down so the roll bar behind your head is a good choice so it is straight in your ear. and so small it not in the way or vulnerable to damage. also the sound quality is supposed to be exceptional. (new sound processor) everyone seems happy with them.
Re: GME TX3100 UHF Radio
you can also use an extension speaker with them...
