3B + Turbo

Post by Fakey »

Before anyone asks Ive tried the search function but couldnt find what I was looking for:lol:

Just got a few questions im hoping someone will have the answers to regarding turboing a 3b diesel engine.

I believe the 13bt manifold will bolt on, what turbos other than the standard 13bt turbo will bolt onto the manifold?

What pattern is the manifold turbo flange?

Any help would be appreciated

When deciding what turbo to use take into account what you want to achive from the turbo, what part of the rev range you want the power to come on etc, if you get one with big exhaust housing itll come on higher in the rev range which aint great on a 3b, and a smaller exhaust housing will spool up quicker and power come on lower in the rev range.

Cheers for the repies guys, yeah I realise turbine housing size affects where power comes in etc. I was just wondering if the factory manifolds were a standard size eg t3 or if itd need an adaptor plate made.
I was trying to decide on turbo diesel or petrol v8 for my next project (new owner just left with the last one  ) but then I spied a cheap 6.2l chev v8 diesel on tardme in welly, with a suspected cracked head

I have a td04L from a wrx on my 3b, mounted on a 'J' pipe off the factory manifold to make it high mount style. It comes on boost just off idle and holds it right through. Full 3 inch exhaust and tweaked fuel pump, super reliable and makes real good power. Better than a 6.2l boat anchor any day!

Yes twin turbo

Have the left bank's turbo feeding the right side and the right side bank's turbo feeding the left. Read it somewhere recently (might even have been on here).
