Excessive play in drag link

Post by 88lux »

Just failed a WOF cos of play in the drag link and to be honest, I am a little ashamed that I didn't notice it myself since it's quite bad.

I know you can get repair kits for each end for about $30, but looking at the ball on the J arm, I think I'm going to have to replace that too. Rang Toyota and they said the ball stud is not a replaceable insert on these and the complete arm is about $190.

I'm guessing I'm not the first to have this problem and was wondering if I have any alternatives. Does anybody know how big the ball is to begin with? Mine is about 18mm diameter but varies across different angles. The pitman stud is more like 19.75 so I'm guessing they are about 20 when fitted
