1KZ-TE ENGINE HELP

Post by COMILUX »

Hey all.

Ive bought myself a 93 Hilux Surf 1kz-te Auto with a cracked head.
Truck/engine is stock standard.

Ive removed and stripped engine, plan is to fit new genuine toyota head, headbolts etc, new bearings and rings and give her a hone.

Does anyone no (or no a link to) the torque settings for head bolts, big end and main bolts?

Also planing to get rid of the egr and upgrade exhaust while im at it.
Is it as simple as unpluging egr, removing it and blanking off both manifold flanges and removing the large throttle butterfly?

Also fitting a external trans cooler and a new manual radiator - Any cheap but good quality radiators around?

Any other recommendations??

Thanks in advance
Nic

While the head is off you could look at giving the ports a clean up too. I know its not a performance head but if it flows better...

Someone on here (in Chch I think) has done the head work so may be able to give better advice.

Off the top of my head...
-Head torque is 39Nm then 90 degrees then another 90 degrees.
-Big ends are 29Nm then 90 degrees.
Mains - I'll have to find out from work tomorrow. (Toyota Tech  )

I think there is a downloadable manual on here somewhere.....
try this thread

Edit: Go see A1 Radiators for a decent rad. If using the manual rad you'll need to use an external a/t cooler. We get our coolers from ATP in CHCH.
Yes block off/get rid of EGR (there's a thread on here also on how and what to do with it), put on a decent exhaust dump pipe and system
