Gearbozx issue

Hi Guy's and Gal's

I'm looking at a new Duck shooting wagon and the seller has said it has a problem with the gear box, this is his description of the issue. I'm thinking thrust bearing myself but let me know what you guys think.
"WHINING NOISE IN GEARBOX,whines when its engaged in gear while driving and when clutch pulls out ofter a gear change but nothing when clutched pushed in or rolling E.G clutch pushed in or neutral"

It is a 1986 2.4ltr surf.

Had similar issue with a small car..
Was the bearings on the input shaft of the box.
