Hey all,
Well I did a bit of an impulse buy and got a 1989 TD42 Nissan Safari NA. Have had a drive of it and all is well with it considering I picked it up just shy of 4k!! So I am now a newbie in the 4wd scene!! I have done a bit of 4wd in a Toyota Landcruiser and Nissan Navara over in Aus but thought I better get a vehicle when I got back to NZ!
Anyway's first thing is to give it a good service, especially the oil and oil filters. The oils I am thinking of using are the Caltex Delo 400 or the Shell Rimula X. So far I have only been able to source the Shell Rimula X from Super Cheap which is $142 per 20L. Super Cheap also has the Valvoline Diesel Extra ($132 per 20), any ideas about the Valvoline?
Main question for the oil is, does anyone know of anywhere in the Auckland area, preferably central that I could source the Caltex Delo 400 or Shell Rimula X for cheaper than what Super Cheap is selling it. Or does anyone think I should go on a complete different path and get a different oil. I have also got a quote from Repco for Shell Helix HX5 Diesel for $120 per 20L, anyone got any experience with this?
Thanks for the help in advance, and I look forward to doing some 4wding in NZ!
Cheers
Andysh

I have run the Valvoline in the last 3 Safari's and the current 80 Series. I always buy it when the 25% discount is on and stock up

Sweet cheers Dave, Repco said they are going to do 20L for 120 so i'll head up there and grab some.

Down here I use a petroleum products supplier 'waitomo petroleum'
Smashes the prices from repco and supercheap.
I was using mobil delvac until they jacked up the price and am trying sinopec at the moment. 15w-40 with 2lt of oil stabiliser.
Watch the oil filters as some have two different filters and the others two of the same.
Z115 i think is one of the codes - need 2 if its two of the same like mine.
They need 10.2litres of engine oil when changing the filters and 9 without i think.
