winch rating?

Whats the go with the ratings on winches. I see 6000lbs plus..im guessing its to do with th the weight of the truck is there a guideline for minimum rating etc....

Jerry a 10,000lb winch is overkill for a lot of trucks. I have a 10,000 WARN and it only just fits with mm to spare between my chassis rails.

What is it going on?
How often do you expect to use it?

I havent got a truck (yet) just trying 2 understand what sort gear i would need as no doubt i will be getting stuck. Just a bit of preplanning.

probably best to decide on the truck first and then decide what you want to do with it. Everyone has a different requirement for a winch. If you are going out alone you may want to look at a good tirfor hand winch to start with so you can pull your self in any direction needed.

best bit of advice here so far

and the batteries dont go flat either and front end weight isnt compomissed with extra weight put on to the rear axle which is better still just got to remember to secure the turfor down well
