KZN130 Front diff and hubs

Post by micahb »

Mine is auto with push button 4wd. so are these auto hubs or something else? was thinking about putting manual hubs on but dont realy know how the system on works. do these hubs even disconnect? or is it done at diff, hence 4WD button?
heard a few different theories but none from people with a bit of experience.

The hubs are perminanlty engaged with drive flanges
The front diff has a vaccum disconnect system that disengages the passenger side axle.

Search for info on the ADD system (automatic differential dissconect)

easy to change to manual hubs, make sure you get the right spline count

And do not try to engage 4wd if you are moving and your fwh's aren't locked in as you will destroy your transfer case. I put a secondary switch in just in case. Have a look in the tech section of the aussie surf forum about how the add works.

Wont make it anymore reliable, infact may make it less reliable as adds another place for the connection not to work. Most people put free wheeling hubs on to reduce wear on cvs after raising etc.
I added them after fitting a lockrite to front diff to reduce wear and makes it nicer to drive with them disconnected.
After adding hubs, to make it more reliable you can get rid of the vacuum disconnect part from the front diff as this is the weakest part also due to the shaft being smaller for the splines.
One job I have been meaning to do as I have broken the shaft before

When you disconnect the vacuum disconnect part are you permanently engaging that diff? ie moving the sleeve over to engaged position and locking it there? if so, how are you doing this?

Ive seen the front diff slide sleeve locked in place with a stainless hose clamp.

But the best way Is to fit a long side axle and tube from a non add IFS front diff. You just Need to pull out the axle seal from the end of the add diff and fit it into the centre before you bolt the non add tube on.
