help!! filler plugs ruined.

Post by andy3542 »

40 is/was due for all the oils changing. done 10000km since i bought it. I thought id take a short cut and drain all the oil first go cut the grass and then come back and fill it all...

well the filler plugs on the gearbox and transfer case are seized, they wont budge for anything. iv done everything that other websites suggest bar welding another nut on and heating them.

the plugs were in pretty bad shape when i started and now theyre pretty much rounded and cut up.

any ideas how i can get even a little bit of oil back in so i can drive it up the road to the garage and let the 'pros' deal with it?

cheers

exactly how far is 'a little way'?

could just nut up and drive it that distance if short enough?

Go to supercheap/repco and get a bolt remover. It slips over the plug and then you tighten it and it puts a wedge into the plug so you can tighten/loosen it til you get a new one.

with the transfer case pull the pto plate off and fill with oil
with the gear bob pull the gear lever off and fill thru the hole there

another idea is to turn the truck over onto its side then you can use the drain holes

Have you hammered a smaller than it should be socket on and then used an impact screw driver (the type you hit).

Or have you tried a Cold Chisel on the side of the flat to drive it round.

The shock will often loosen the tight ones

Sometime you have to get a bit rough with it.

Thanks guys, already tried hitting it, not much room to get a decent hit in though even with the bash protection removed. will try the bolt remover tomorrow and if not fill it through pto cover and gear lever. better get reading my manual.

fill it to about 75% volumn as if the micnic has to weld to it he doesnt the back of the plug submerged in oil.

still like the idea of rolling it over would be an easy fill then
