Hilux hi steer with commodore v6?

Post by gimmemud »

Hey guys,
Has anyone on here done this? Was thinking of going hi steer now that i have pretty much replaced everything to do with steering on my truck. Wondering if any mods need to be done to the sump or if it'll work at all?

I had a mate who used to do the rock trips with us who had histeer and V6 commonwhore. Not sure if he did any sump alterations or not though, as I was running 5M and 6M engines at the time, and his set up didn't interest me :P . He has since sold the rig, so i can't even check it out for you.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

comilux on here has done it with a modified sump, he's not on here much so ill snap a pic if i get a chance.
Long story short, do the mod but you will need to mod sump.

100mm  comys 6s are front end pickup yea? but then its ideal to change pick up to rear???? so where would things sit once its rear pick and the sump is reversed????

Yea i put rears up front which give about 60mm and then moved front mounts forward a further 40mm.

Yea pickup is up front, you could extend to make it in the back and the would alow to cut some of the front out, i was going to do this but ran short on time and needed truck going for a trip i was going on.
With having diff that far forward a was able to trim the front out and extended it in other places to keep capacity the same and keep pickup in the same place but prob isnt the ideal way but they do have a deep pickup witch is well submerged when full of oil - ive climbed steep banks without probs.

bumping this up cause ive had a measure up and things are not going to go in with out alot of mods.

1st. the passenger side mount i purchased from marks wont work as its made to still use the a/c pump, so it drops down then up again to the block.. so all i can see it working is to make a new mount with eliminating a/c pump..

2nd. drivers side seems ok.. has anyone got any pics info or links to anyone doing this mod, as im thinking i need to mod the mounts, sump and possibly even lift the motor, but im thinking if its going to become too much of a headache maybe i need to consider and motor option..

sump mod isnt a prob but im thinking if i need to modify already aftermarket mounts, modify sump, raise engine and box, dis-card a/c pump then is it going to be as cost effective as fitting another engine, im still definately going to see what I can do to keep the comy but, I do have to weigh up time and effort when something else could be alot easier...

Got a mate here who has done it but the engine has been moved back and down.... moved the firewall back about 150mm and I cut and rebuilt his sump to be a rear pickup, cut the front off the sump at the same time... can get picks if you want truck is in my shop now, he's fitting a rear rad and a few other bits
Its been done before locally but with a 5" body lift this let the motor fit over everythiing

Cheers Reece

hhmmm so seems it may be a bit of work, so i need to weigh up the reality of it versus another engine... 3rz sounding apealing again... would have to sell the comy with marks kit though before i done anything else....

yea throw up some pics when you can..
and details as to why the mods were done if possible, like Muddyhilux said, that way it will be up here for future reference for others..

priority for me is high-steer then the motor 2nd so the motor needs to work around the steering.. wonder if ill be able to sell the motor and adaptor kit easy enough........ :?
