LN106 SAG

Post by vinceparts »

ive got a bad problem with sag, i bought a second hand lift kit a while back, chucked it in, rears a factory 2 inch reset with extended shackles, front exteded shackles and front srings are 4 inch max trac or sumthn i beieve, they have passengers and drivers labelled on them, any how, when i put them in the passengers side sags quite a bit like i mean 1 1/2 inch , looks stupid from the front, ive kinda forgotten about it all till today when i thought id chuck a piece of 10mm plate under that leaf pack and see what happens and it did sweet f all , was thinking it might do something seeing how far the leafs sit front the wheel,

what do you guys reckon i do??

i was thinking it could possibly have something to do with the adjustable torque arm?? or diff locater rod that i put in with the kit, how do you know that its adjusted corectly?

or do i remove a leaf or two from the drivers side leaf pack?

forgot to mention ive put new 4 inch lift ranchosin aswell

cheers vince

if they are maxitrak springs I think you'll find theres quite a few old threads on here of people grumbling about them sagging or sitting at uneven heights, never used them myself but they dont seem to have a very good name

a lot of leaf sprung hilux springs are set higher on driver side, this gives the impression of sag... also check the leaf isnt bending under (inverted) at the seats where the u-bolts attach. the seats are soft and prone to bending over the edges then when the spring compresses it inverts under full load. this over time leads to the spring sagging....

ill have to take a pic , i dont think you guys actually realise how bad it is, its on the piss sumthn chronic

the spring seats do have a small bow in them but nothing crazy

if i chuck in a caster wedge that should make sure the springs seats are flat or flatter correct?

im going to take out the tourque arm tonight a see if it lowers the drivers side a little and go from there

well had a decent look and it looks liek the springs flogged out, its pretty near flat and the drivers side has an arch in it , so i think ill need a new passengers spring, was thinking of rears up front but at this point in time i dont really need to be f**kn round with crossover steering and changing to ifs steering box and all the other related crap, maybe another day i can be bothered,

unless the trucks an old piece of junk or your really short on money or you just happen to know where the right spring is you usually stick replacement springs in as a pair to keep them matched up

well what ive read about these maxi trac springs isnt very good, alot of stories of sagging and un eveness,
so thought whats the point in buyin a pair of springs that will fail or not even be even when i can buy one and have 50 / 50 chance of getting it even ....

Or you could buy two new or second hand springs of something in a different brand then you will have better than a 50% chance of getting them even?

yea i could, buuut i wanna go rears up front in the near future and throwing money at a pair of ome springs or similar to only sell for half the cost later on i dont feel is nessecary, and everyone has a budget and mine might just be a bit less than others,
