Hi
I have an oil leak at the rear of my motor, I have changed the rear crank seal but oil continues to leak from this area. Has anyone had similar issues and how it was solved.
Any information would be much appricated.

P76 oil leaks
Re: P76 oil leaks
Hi Paul, sorry can't help with experience with the P76, but with any motor , has the leak been traced to the rear oil seal or that direction ?, I would check the crank for a groove where the seal runs, what condition are the main bearings in ?, could be to much movement in crank shaft, also check crankshaft thrust bearings, are there any plugs ( rear of camshaft ) or bungs at the back of the block ?, check the engine breathers are not blocked, is the motor getting a bit tired and breathing heavy, if so it could be pressurising sump. The P76 motor had a habbit of cracking the crankshaft ?????, has this been checked ?, could be getting a bit of flex. These motors are getting a bit like me,

Re: P76 oil leaks
I have a feeling this seal is a rope seal & they are prone to leaking...no idea if you can replace it inplace or not.

Re: P76 oil leaks
Thanks for the ideas. I had another look in the weekend and what I can see from the rear seal it looks clean. There are 2 seals on the rear cap that may be leaking. I will need to drop the sump to remove these seals and replace. I will look at this after christmas when I have time.
Thanks Paul
