Anybody know anything about this truck?

Anyone know of this truck?
Looks from the main pic that it has been wheeled down south, looks like a fairly decent truck from the pics if the running gear is ok. Anybody know roughly how much Jeffs would charge to drag it up to CHCH?
Cheers.

I wouldnt buy it not at 3.5k. Missing bits and needing alot of work. It says its an 82 but the chassis and running gear looks to be pre 1980 so it could be a late 70s cruiser but had paper and plates changed at some stage. In one of the pics it looks like theres a big hole on the chassis around the left shock tower.
That white one is a nice cruiser, Much better than the other one.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Re: Anybody know anything about this truck?
thanks Jase. Hadn't noticed the possible hole in the chassis on the Invercargill one. I don't mind a bit of a project if it saves me having to pay a chunk of cash for one but I'd like to be able to drive the truck some time soon. Not into a super long-term project but a bit of a tidy-up of something scruffy would be ok.
The white one looks nice and seems good for 8k, the only thing that would worry me is the repairs and then fresh paint meaning you have no idea what was repaired and how well.
Shame there's nothing a bit closer to chch, bit of a shortage of diesel 40s on trademe for a while.

I also wouldnt touch that first one for that sort of money its too much work and as Jase pointed out its a pre 1980 chassis (semi floater rear end and its got the early small eye leaf springs). 40's are all 30-40 years old now and are a lot of work to fight the rust and keep them running let alone keeping them road legal and if they havent been modified they still have armstrong steering and drum brakes
If your really set on a 40 (and I'm pretty sure you had one before) personaly I think your better off looking at the top end ones and paying more initially but a lot less in the long run, it'll be a lot less work and a lot less $$$ than trying to fix an old piece of junk up

Hey thanks for the offer NJ, other comments have kinda put me off that one now. Maybe if it was under 2, for closer to 4 it really should be a scruffy runner I think.

Hey Sadam, yeah I had a few 40s before. The most recent was a really decent truck which I ended up selling to fund a camper van trip after the earthquake. So I do know what I'm getting into with the driving experience. I'm pretty mechanical and can spray and weld too so the project idea isn't too scary but as you say I was kinda starting to think buying something scruffy for less money means you end up paying the same once you've fixed it up anyway. Plus way more grief and as you say it's enough work keeping a something that age on the road.
I would prefer something tidy to start off with but I'm not getting caught up in the silly prices some of the tidier trucks are going for lately. 12-14k for a stock 40 is just not worth it in my opinion. Just my opinion though but I've driven a few and they're not worth 12-14k for what they are I don't think.
This white one for 8 is attractive if it is as good as it appears to be but that's always the hard part to work out.
Anyone from Hastings area that knows a bit about 40s fancy taking a look for me? Happy to contribute a few beers in return...

Re: Anybody know anything about this truck?
I understand what your saying and where your going Mongoose but dont forget the old rule of thumb with projects, work out what you think it'll cost you and times it by 3 and times it by 3 again and thats what it'll probably cost to complete and get it on the road, my 40 had $60k spent on it by the previous owner

Re: Anybody know anything about this truck?
Wait long enough to make the decision and it gets taken out of your hands, that white truck looks to have sold.
Hmm, I want to spend as little as possible
Seriously though it really would depend on the truck. What sort of money is your mate thinking about? I was really looking for a diesel though - running a V8 is a bit of a luxury these days on an everyday truck which is what I'm looking for.
