KZJ78 Manual Transmission problem...help

Post by madetdb8 »

94 LC prado, KZJ78, auto to manual conversion.

The problem starts when i try to put the manual transmission on the engine.. it does not fit. so i assume the box come with the manual conversion kit is wrong.(the guy i bought the kit from would not want to refund...so, #### it)
the bellhousing is smaller than the flywheel....OMG.

After two weeks phone call and search, i locate one gearbox from Toyota wrecker in northshore, they asked $1100 for it. After 3 days' struggling, i agreed. However, when i get to the site and pick up, the 'R151F' from parts connection is same as mine. how come??? they said it is a R151F but is from lj78 which is 2lt engine...i m confused.... the guys from toyota called me today, said W59 can be used with 1kzte engine and i can go for that. but it is not strong enough, right?

So what gearbox should i use at all and so i assume the one come with my first conversion kit is R151f from a 2lt, what bellhousing can i use to mate the gearbox and engine....

i was sooooooooooooo lost. thanks for any help.

w59 will be completely wrong, no bellhousing to mate to 1kz and hilux transfer not cruiser.

You need an r151 from a 1kz powered Prado.
An r151 from a kz surf will have the right bellhousing but the wrong transfer case.

Thanks for that. So I assume the box I had is behind a 2lt engine. It had split transfer case. And offset output shaft both front and rear. Can I use the hilux r151 f bell housing and use this 150f or can I use the transfer case of this one and keep the rest from hilux r151f .cheers

Also, I think the gearbox cross member is in a different place on the auto and manual chassis's ...or at least that's they way it seemed when we bought a cross member from an auto chassis, that wouldn't fit on our manual chassis.
