Check engine light help

Hey my check engine lights comes on going up a hill when cold. But sometimes comes on just normal driving it still boosts up cause i usually flatten it when it does come on. Was wondering why the car loses power when it comes on im thinking the fuel pump injector pump or injector need cleaning. Anyone she some light if possible thanks

it does help if you mention what 4x4, engine , etc that you have.
didn't you have a 2.8 conversion surf? if so there shouldn't be any check light.
otherwise chase up the procedure for reading the codes and it will tell you what the problem is.

It is a 92 surf 2l bottom end with a 3l head ?
