I have a 1991 80 series landcruiser with the 1HD-FT diesel motor. After reading a UK forum, there is a lot of info about needing to do the big end shell bearings, basically a.s.a.p. if over 100,000km. They say that if they go, it can be a disaster as the piston will clip the valves or worse. Mine is at 257,000km and the bearings have never been checked. They are saying that the original Toyota bearing metal isn't compatible with the UK oil (was made for Japanese oil) and this is what causes failure. My mechanic said when I first got the wagon, do the bearings at 300,000km. So conflicting advice. Can anyone here help me with more info regarding running these in NZ. I do the oil & filters every 10,000km? Help!!!! Please!!!!
