what height body lift for hilux?

Post by andrew007 »

Hi guys ,i'm going to do a body lift to my ln106 hilux.Wots the max safe height you should go to? I already have some 50mm plastic spacers;someone said you can only go to 40mm.Wot type of bolts should i use? Also should you match existing rubber block diameters, or go larger?Hopefully this lift will let me run the 33's without guard rub;as i don,t want to shift my diff forward if i can help it. :D Cheers for any help.

I have a 50mm body lift on my yn65 dc and there have been no probs. Just had to loosen the steering column spline, reset the clamps on the filler tubes, and lower the radiator a little. Also had to modify the gear stick to fit properly in the hole in the transmission tunnel. Some guys bend the stick, but I cut and rewelded mine.

I used blocks the same diameter as the original pucks (can't remember how many) with 8.8 rated bolts, think they were 12mm dia. This arrangement seems to work okay, but then I have only done one body lift....

You may want to buy some rubber sheeting to replace the stock items which hang from the body and cover the chassis. I did not do this and I am forever cleaning mud off the top of the chassis.

Don't know if this arrangment will clear 33's without rub. I run 35s with 50mm body lift, 50mm spring lift and diff 40mm forward. Might do it with a little panel beating/grinding on the trailing edge of the fender. Diff shift is no big deal either, though it will cost for cert etc. I lifted the body by using the jack which came with the truck between the tyre and the body with a wooden "plate" in between, did one side at a time.

be very careful with the steering joint. i would undo one of the non adjustable joints and slacken the adjustable one and make sure when you have done the lift that they all fit together properly. if not then space out the rubber joint down near the steering box.

Yup, I was paranoid about the steering column spline when I did mine, marked it with white paint so it fitted back in the correct location and all. Also a good idea to give the original body bolts a dousing with crc a day or two before pulling it apart. Nylock nuts are a good idea for the replacement bolts too.

Sure were lucky, nothing like a little scare to make you pay attention when modifying

What height is good for a LN106?? My brother wants me to lift his hilux, i have done my swb safari 50mm but would think 40mm for a hilux??

How many spacers?? what diameter?? what size bolts??

anything i need to check out and modify for the lift??

cheers

There is no point in going higher than needed as this only makes the centre of gravity higher and increases the risk of rolling.

I have gone up about 35mm on the body and 75 mm on the deck.

the only way to stop 33x12.5s rubbing is to move the axle forward or do what I have done and reshape the body behind the wheel. I have gained 75mm behind the wheel by cutting the body with an angle grinder, bashing it in and then mig welding it up again.

I run 35x12.5 tyres without any problem.
