Hi just considering my options to repower my yn60 surf its quite frankly embarassing to drive, have been thinking of a 3rz but they seem to be hard to find in a factory manual, is there anyone who has run a 2jzge in there daily runner 4x4? what the fuel consumption like?
Thanks Stu

Re: 2jzge fuel economy
I know when I had 37s and 4.8 diffs on my old hilux with a dented up factory tank you soon learnt where every gas station was along your travels. Managed half a tank (guess 20litres) between hornby and ashburton
but did get it a bit better.

Re: 2jzge fuel economy
its been a few years since i have my 2JZ surf but i think i used to get around 27-28mpg out of it.

Shit thats pretty good
Re: 2jzge fuel economy
it did have a haltech ecu on it and i spent a few hours road tuning the cruise zones to get good fuel economy.
got 29.5mpg from one in a auto supra and 32mpg in a manual supra

hmmm.... you are thinking of putting a japanese sports car engine in your ute and your concerned about fuel consumption?
my rb30det could drain a 55 litre tank between waioru and turangi if i let it, but that's the trade off for having more power under the hood then a Maserati. 554kw at the fly from memory.
if fuel consumption is your biggest issue go diesel. at least with a snorkel you can play submarines.
there is no substitute for cubic inches. land cruiser engine?

Dont know if id call the non turbo 2jzge engine a sports car engine though I supose it did come in some supra's, mainly just trying to find out if it would use more than the 3y I cant believe it can burn so much fuel yet be so guttless I tried using it to go to work 70kms each day for a couple weeks but it costs to much, was filling up twice a week and found myself the leader of a few early morning convoys

Id love a diesel but the combination of the road tax (prefer the pay as you go approach petrol has) and stupid registration that penalises just because its diesel powered on top of the fact that the wife wont let me get one because of the above reasons

Re: 2jzge fuel economy
I loved my 2J in the Prado and when I did the numbers on fuel consumption + RUC + servicing every 5K, the 2J was cheaper to run. That was 6 years ago, but I doubt its changed that much.

okay, A toyota cresta might be your best bet not as popular as the soarer or supra. it was more a luxury sedan then sports car the ecu was tuned so, there a few in the country, they come with a 2 litre 1ge 2.5 1jz and also the 1ggteu and later models the 2jzgte.

my surf with 2JZGE would pull over 200 clicks...
they are a great motor, if thinking of going that way i would reccomend a 1997+ type with VVTI, found in the aristo, altezza wagon, chaser etc etc. they have alot more torque in the sub 3500rpm range than the early pre vvti engines which would suit the heavier vehicle and 4wd'ing
