Morning
If someone has a diff apart or the bearings out can someone tell me what the outside diameter of the bearings are ?
Likewise the same for a hilux .
Thanks
Chris
Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
Re: Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
I'm assuming you are just after the main bearing size (the ones that hold the carrier and the axles go through)
Your hilux diff will have different sizes depending on style.... LSD and 4 spider are a larger bearing
Not certain if this is the same with the cruiser stuff
I'll have a measure up at work today
Cheers Reece

Re: Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
Did not think the 4 spider would be larger , bet thats what the diff is . I googled the bearing numbers and then looked them up in timken . Seems the small lux and cruiser have the same bearings at 79.974 , but lets call it 80mm
and the v6 and LSD ( assuming the v6 are the 5 spider ) are 83mm . What a pain of a size .
Be nice to confirm this thou .
Cheers

Re: Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
i found out of three different sizes of bearings when i put the lsd carrier into my 4.8 HP 8" diff
had both sets, 1 from the 4 spider diff, one from the HP diff. but had to get third set and use the inside diameter of the 4 spider carrier and the outside diameter of the HP case.

Sorry for the slow reply (backs been playing up a bit and not getting through the jobs at the shed)
Fitting a 4 spider center into a hi-pinon at the moment, so these are all confirmed off the bearing shells
2 spider open is 80mm OD x 45mm ID (includes the hi-pinon)
hi-pinon is from an LJ 78 prado
the standard 2 spider I can't say, its been in bits so long I can't remember where I got it from, 4.56 ratio for what its worth
4 spider open and LSD 83mm OD x 50mm ID
the 4 spider is another unknown (4.8 ratio)
the slippery I measured was from a gen 2, 2.8 double cab.... I think
vwilly would be keen to know your third option
my answer to fit the 4 spider into the hi-pinion is to machine 5mm off the center bearing mount dia
Cheers Reece

Re: Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
when i put the lsd centre into the hp diff it would be the 4 spider ID and the HP OD lol so i could fit it
Does that sound right hahaha

Re: Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
Years ago, when I was incapable of doing much due to a buggared shoulder via a bad dislocation, I had a 4 pinion diff carrier installed in the front HP 4.3 KZJ-71 diff along with a Lockright.
Dave Taylor farmed the assembly out to Mike Tall. From memory he managed to get a set of bearings which were lower profile to solve this issue. As I understand it no machining was required. Certainly didn't look that way when I was back in there checking the LR shim settings a year ago. I i don't recall the bearing numbers.

Re: Cruiser/lux diff carrier bearing size
just run the numbers on the SKF site and going to a lower profile bearing reduces strength by around 30%
think I'll continue on with the machining....
And I'm cheap I have a good set of bearings in the diff
Cheers Reece
