Here is an exploded view...

Will throw up the manual pages soon... Looks like it just comes off with a gear puller, probably a taper...So will be tight to start with...

Here is a link to a 2l - 2lT manual which is hosted by a forum member wjw...
http://home.wjw.co.nz/Toyota/manuals/l_ ... manual.pdf
I think the TE is just the electronic pump version of the 2lT.
I am a 1KZT-E man...so not fully upto speed on the little brother engine...

I did have a link to the 2lTE manual but the site is no longer hosting it..

That sound scary.... like if its miss aligned the valves could be hitting the top of the pistons...
Don't force it ...Back track and start again aligning everything...

I can still turn the 1kzte over by hand...It has compression but slowly bleeds off past the rings...
The timing should have three ref marks... One for Cam, one for crank and one for Injector pump....
Once all aligned there should be a specific number of cam belt teeth between two of the points before the tensioner is applied. Or something like that....
Did you down load that manual???
