Cruiser PTO Winch ( Broken)

Post by oldblue »

Any one heard of the winch gearbox blowing apart. the input shaft seems to have tryed to ride over the teeth of the cog wheel. The casting is now in two pieces
Do's any one have a spare winch gearbox to sell ?.

Hi FItzy, Yes i got your e'mail, Big thank you.
I will PM to H2o about the winch. At the moment only looking for a winch Gearbox, if all fails then a complete winch withot the PTO part.
Still on the Pyrometer thing, theres a big differance in prices.

This is what can happen if you beef up the sheer pin on your winch.

Bugger!

I wonder if those winches could be strengthened up by drilling out where those bottom worm end cap bolts go on & having 2 high tensile studs going from one end to the other? The GT Gillies monster winch I got for Telexs winch truck is made like that.

Cheers

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.

Thats a great idea clint. i don't reckon you have drill anything out. If your lucky the thread pitch might line up and you could fee a threaded rod right through. Will have a serious look at the one on the work shop floor and see if thats gonna work.

From an engenering point of view, that makes good sence, would harness the forces that are going foward and outward.
You would need to drill one of the tapped holes,to screw a rod thro two tapped holes and hope they are syncroniced is a big ask.

Looks like the input flange is breaking to, so one made off steel might help strenghten it all as well.
