78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
Yes been there done that...
Will throw up some pics over the weekend...
I cut out the inner guard to the inside edge of the engine bay side wall....
And replaced it with a plastic shaped sheet...
Guard is a bit flimsy but it worked for me...
As for the guard, I cut a good 70mm off all around and bending over a 10mm lip...
Some places I needed to cut it so it folded and then tacked the lip with the mig...
Photo's will show the extent....
So stand by one....

Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
NOTE:I am running KL71's in 35x12.5x15... And also Simex 35x10.5x16 no rubbing issues at all...
ok as promised some pics with dimensions (don't forget to add more for the flange) Had a bit of time while playing with the coils this morning.
As for the inner guard, some say they have beaten it into shape but I couldn't manage it so it got the chop...
And I filled the gap with a plastic sheet.
Its sandwiched between the attachment points from the inner guard and frame.
I have a template of the plastic sheet, its a funky shape...
I can trace it onto paper for you if you go down that track....
Now onto the photo's.

Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
Thank heaps for that Calvin. Got a bit of chopping to do if i want to use them Sunday then. Might take you up on that template offer. Would conveyer belt work? (have heaps of that.) or needs that rigidity that the plastic has?
Cheers, Micah.

I think the conveyor belt may be too thick when sandwiched between the inner guard and its mating face....But should be stiff enough...

I have a few different thickness sheets, but thinner ones wont be as rigid either i guess. will see how it goes. Going to trim guards and beat inner one for now. then when i get my hands on your template will make something nice.

Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
Well went ahead and started trimming, just used some tin snips. hands got a friggen work out. but both guards trimmed. tomorrow will cut and fold edges. the mrs came out half way through, took one look, sighed and walked back inside. hahaha.
Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
Calvin, did you trim your rear guards at all? mine got a bit munted when articulating or getting a decent bump.
Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
I haven't done my rear guards as yet... Only get slightly kissed, but that may change with the new softer springs...
Also my tyres don't stick out too far... As my rims produce a similar offset to that of the factory alloys.
A chap in our club is using a set of rims with -44 (15x8?) and they hit real bad....
Might need to extend the bump stops...
Did you try out the template?

Re: 78 Series Prado Guard trim for 36's
Yeah my rims, 15x8 have a huge offset. stick wayyy out. oh well, just have to pave the way there then. rather trim than lose the little articulation i have. maybe when i get my other set of rims flipped, ill get them slightly less offset. then run those as rears. yeah have got template printed out but left it at work. looks like it should work sweet.
