Aftermarket Air Filter????

Post by Gavlaar153 »

Hey, I have been trying to find an aftermarket or performance air filter (K & N or the likes) for my 1996 2.8L diesel Toyota Hilux (non-turbo) but haven't been having much luck. I am hoping to find one similar to the original so that it will just fit in the existing original air box. Does anyone know anywhere selling these in NZ (if you can get em) on the net or local I'm in the Hawkes Bay. Cheers. Gav.

stick to the paper filters as they are way better at protecting ya engine.. the K & N types let more particles in then in turn wear ya engine faster..
thats what I would do  in fact thats what I do.. lol might cost a little more but in the end the result is better.. IMO

Got to agree ...keep using the paper/factory type ,the do a much better job at keeping the dust out.You may get a little more horsepower but at the cost of ya engine if ya go for K&N type.

We use Green Filters. Can't find the cataloge right now, but they have a bunch of OEM replacement filters. Transmax are the importers I think.
We choose Green Filters because they are a common fitment on WRC cars, off road racers and circuit cars. They have some blurb about how good they are compared to other oil type filters, probably to be taken with a grain of salt.

I think this is the K&N filter I purchased in my 2.8 hilux http://nzairfilter.co.nz/replacement-ai ... -2487.html it is a slightly smaller outside diameter but same length so fits snuggly over the intake to the manifold.

Yes I know people say that paper is better and K&N let crap in, but for my driving, mainly sealed roads or club trips over farms, there is very little dust.
I do the occasional gravel road that covers my dash board in dust but it does not get into my engine.

To check for dust I sprayed inside the intake piping with a little filter oil to see how much dust got through the filter, after 5,000km (when I clean my filter and do my oil and oil filter) there was none.
