righteo. Got a fair bit of heat on the left leg from the transmission tunnel, but oddly, not a whole heap on the passengers side.
it appears that when the previous owner swapped out the transmission and engine, any heat shield that may have been there (do they even have one?) isn't there now.
Having said that, is there a material that can be applied without having to rip the whole shebang out to keep the heat out of the cab?
Google has been asked, with no answer... Can ORE outperform google?
Cheers in advance
Mark

Re: 80 series trans tunnel heat shield
Hiya Heath, yeah I guess that'll do. I suppose it's stickability will depend on how clean I can get the inside of the tunnel. Or then again, perhaps the carpet and console can be lifted and it can go on the inside.
I dunno really, have never come across this scenario before

FYI
after a trip from welly up past yours and beyond, my left leg is almost burning the hairs off, although it doesn't help that I have no carpet

Bro, I dont wanna know about what you get up too in the missus' cruiser.. really I don't.
So the superheated cab space is normal, no wonder everyone cries when their 80 series aircon units crap out.
I'll have to experiment over the next few days with some of the stuff that heath posted up before, or have also stumbled on a "blanket" that may also work under the carpets.

Mines the same, wonder if that's why 80 owners have a stinky left foot.

Re: 80 series trans tunnel heat shield
So, pulled out the refridgerated console, and was having a tidy up inside afterwards. while buggering around in the back I glanced up, and looked through the gap between the gearshift moulding and the trans tunnel, and you know what i saw........
light... lots of light. Now I haven't investigated it much further to date (been away) but, kinda stands to reason that it may not be heat from the transmission that gets things all superheated, but a whole shitload of hot air from the engine bay thats getting forced in though this gap. No wonder they have refridgerated consoles, bloody hard to keep anything cold with forced induction hot air!!
Will be looking soon to see if its a rust hole, or if its simply a gap in the firewall, but judging by all the commentry Ive heard about the inside heat, Im picking its a stock standard hole
