4WD Dyna Van?

Post by Di0n »

I'm looking at building a 4WD Campervan this summer. A few years ago I had a lifted 2.8 Manual 4WD Hiace Camper, it was great and went nearly anywhere. But it lacked space and power. So I'm wondering if you could convert a Dyna van to 4WD? They have leaf springs all around and I think a full chassis so should go alright offroad with a front diff and transfer case? Does anyone have experience with dyna vans or trucks?

There is a Daihatsu version too. Briefly had one with their 2.8 diesel.

Really?! I have never seen one. But that would be far easier than building one. I think with a spring lift and some mud tyres it should be fairly capable?

what sort of size are you after?

i'm a little wary with names because you can get the same vehicle with 3 different names on it ! eg hiace truck, toyo truck and dyna can be, but not always, the same model.

why not a mitsi canter 4x4 truck. available in double cab. should be easy enough to put a body on it or leave it as a flat deck and slide a camper onto it.

A friend of mine had one, and I gather they basically added a t case to the back of the trans and a front diff nearly bolted in. I gathered it was nearly a 70 series in 2wd clothing..
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

could you slam a dana d60 or something up front with a divorced transfer case? could work out.
lots of dyna and daihatsu vans have ham as engines so make sure you don't just end up with one that's got an L series, or a 2.8L B engine.
14b+t could be cool .
Also, most dynas I've been underneath are like 10mm from sitting on teh bumpstops without even having any load on them (the beam axle front ones anyways) lots of scope for a lift there I'm sure.
