Hi there. I have just started doing some basic maintenance on my Hilux (2005, 3.0L turbo diesel, 1KD-FTV) like changing the fuel filter and air filter, and I now want to do an oil and filter change, but I'm buggered if I can find a a diagram or photo anywhere of the location of the oil drain plug. I know it should be pretty obvious, but most of my front end is covered with bash plates, and the one nut I can see (which is 14mm, so the correct size) isn't located on the bottom of the sump, it's slightly off-bottom.
Can anyone help me out here with a diagram or photo showing where the oil drain plug is?
Any other tips would be much appreciated (e.g. do you recommend getting the car up on jack stands when changing the oil?).
Thanks.
Dan
2005 Hilux oil drain plug location?
Re: 2005 Hilux oil drain plug location?
The sump bung won't nesseccarily be on the bottom, a lot of them are on the side near the bottom.

It will be a 14mm head as all toyotas are. Pull the bash plate off and you will soon see it.

Look up at oil pickup gauze while drain bung is out, if you can see any carbon blocking it then remove sump, do full clean out, and replace injector seals.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the one 14mm head I can see is probably the one then. Should have trusted myself in the first place!
