turbo on 3y-e hilux ga-yn107

Post by rajiv.tekniq »

Hello, I am from Guyana, South America. I have a 1998 4dr hilux ga-yn107. I've got the 2000cc 3Y-E motor in it and I would like to know how to go about getting a turbo or supercharger fitted to it.

I've done alot of reading on this and still have no clear idea on how to do this or how to direct a mechanic to get it done. I know most of you will say just chuck it and do an engine swap, but I would like to go down this road as far as it gets me before i do a swap.

A little info on the hilux, it has done 247,000+km, about 5,000km ago i did an overhaul(cleaned out injectors, new seals and gaskets), new clutch and pressure plates, replaced air box with cone air filter, upgraded to an entry level kyb offroad suspension in the front and and back and added another pair of leaf springs so I can carry more weight in the tray (i use it to carry farm related equipment and supplies) and it sits on 32x10.5r15 LT tires.

It runs great, especially since the overhaul; burns a little more fuel around town, but makes up for it by not having to struggle so much with weight in the back and long trips.

I'm fairly sure this turbo/supercharger thing can be done on this engine. Can anyone help me?

hi there i put a td27 turbo on my 4y went like a cut cat but i was running lpg and had tuning issues and ended up blowing the headgasket and big end bearings got real noisy. it is possible and the results are good but will take alot of work the manifold is a little tight as inlet and exhaust is on the same side. dont know if you will have any problems with the computer and injectors but id have a good search around, there are a few youtube vids on these motors being turboed.
