electric motor replacement

Hey guys i have replaced the gearbox in my hilux ln106 for a r150. It has the electric motor on the back that engages 4wd.
I had an auto electrician wire it up and i have a light on dash that glows when 4wd is engaged and stops when its disengaged.
Has anyone replaced this electric motor with a lever/cable as im on my 4th electric motor as they keep crapping out and im over replacing them cheers troy

If you check in bulletproof's thread, he got around this problem by using a two way pneumatic ram. Only thing is you need air supply for this. I'll be making one for my gearbox shortly

how did he wire it up? Did he use the disc inside the motor as a stop so you can't over load it. The electric motor transfer cases have the same style motor and most of the same components as a 80 series electric diff lock actuator. There is pages and pages in the states of how to wire them up. If you don't put some form of stop you can burn the motor out. The is a disc with a few contacts in it that the computer uses to switch the power off to the motor when it gets to a certain point. My 4wd computer crapped out and I have mine operating like this now. The only problem i have ever has is when the breather came off and the motor filled up with water and dirt and cause the contacts to become dirty. If you want me to have a look i don't mind. I have mine operating off a switch that is setup so you can hold down the button for as long as you want but when it engages it stops.

I think SamLogan is right, if its wired to just keep the power on then you will burn motors for sure, I have had a few trucks with the elec setup and never had an issue so Ide be looking at the wiring.

Cheers for the info guys ill try and get the motor wired up correctly.At the moment i have a 3 way switch thats always off, when you hold it down it engages 4wd and hold up to disengage, its not using the limiter switch to stop the motor power only goes to motor when when your holding switch .I found this wireing diagram http://www.yotatech.com/f2/e-locker-wir ... se-247763/
and have taken it to two electicians they dont no what what type of switch it is. is this how other people have wired it up? i talked to lineside and they said you have to wire in the computer to do it.does anyone no any places in northcanterbury/christchurch that have done this before?

i am in christchurch and can sort something out for you. It is a double pole double throw switch (dpdt). Unfortunately Lineside is good at doing that. Did they give you a price at the same time? Give me a txt or call on 0212443092 if you want and we can sort somthing out.

silly question here ......but any reason you can't just fit a geared transfer case with stick shift instead of mucking around with the electrics ?

not on the back of those gearboxes without an adapter kit for them.

thanks for the offer sam i think ive got if sorted ive used the disc inside the motor as the earth and it seems to be running fine and cutting out the current when its ment to time will tell thanks for all the good advice.

I do them with 2 relays and use the factory button on the gear lever.
Works just like factory, I can also do the diff locks the same way.
