Never really heard of failures, any one else had any problems??

sick lock-right
finished putting back together the front axle(70 series l/c) today after blowing a cv & twisting a axle shaft on the spline a week ago, new seals & oil, road tested--sweet --- then engaged hubs ,great until the first corner
-locked diff-. bit of a bugger .lockers been in for 3 yrs no probs, guess I'll have to pull the axles again tomorrow nite and drop the diffhead to see whats happened, a bit stumped as theres buggar all to go wrong in them.....and I wasn't excactly thrashing it when the cv let go into about 20 bits.

Hey, be sure to keep us posted with what you find to be wrong. I have exactly the same problem with mine. It looked allright on the bench in the diff head, so i threw it in, but like you, found the bloody thing won't unlock.
Its odd, i can leaver the dog apart from the coupler through the filler plug in the diff, so there is enough clearencel, i have tried LSD oil, no change.
I haven't pulled it out yet as i have been waiting to hear from someone that has had a similar problem and what they did to sort it out.
So i am most interested to hear..........

diff head out , locker has broken 3 of the 4 spring loaded pins that the plates slide on , one of the broken pins was jammed in the space between the plates when locka is engaged , preventing it from unlocking, no damage to the locking plates , no sign of major wear from 3yrs use. apart from checking clearances between plates on reinstall , I'll make some new pins, and put it back together. Im guess when cv blew , axle jammed inside swivel cup and shock loading on one side caused the damage. twisted the axle shaft on the spline, so I guess minor locka damage could be expected.
finally got round to putting the front diff back together, new pin&spring kit for lockright ,$35+gst. was suggested clearances were to large from dealer, even thru it has done 4-5yrs & 90000km and seems to me within "tolerances". so I assembled with some thicker thrust washers from another spare diff head , so clearances are just over "min" specs. hopefully this will cure problem if any?.
