Terrano Turbo gone bad methinks... any other suggestions?

Post by stovanovich »

So yesterday on the way home I noticed the ol' girl was puffing out more smoke than usual under a little bit of load then upon looking at boost gauge realised "oh crap, there is no boost"
Upon slowing down and trying to get back up to speed I then noticed the boost gauge was instead going into the vacuum side of the gauge buy about 0-5PSI

When I got home pulled out the EGT probe and the end had snapped off and If I could hazard a guess it's gone through the turbo  . Didn't wanna look any further last night so it was inside for a few beers to calm down.
Gonna start taking things apart tonight to do a proper diagnosis, but if anyone has any other suggestions as to what might have happened, please fire away!

You answered it yourself... vacum means restriction between air filter and valves.... and if the turbo aint pushing air, its slowing it down.

Yeah that's what I figured, but hey thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone had any other thoughts, started disassembling everything tonight.

So as it turns out, the probe end was just wedge in the blades but If I'd tried running it into boost any further it would've surely destroyed the blades and really done some damage. Turbo is out now and new one about to go in. Although I'm thinking I might move EGT probe location to dump pipe, sure the temps will be significantly lower but at least I can air on the side of caution, for fear of it happening again.
