Any good idea's on where to get a new/overhauled starter for a 2L engine, and also a rough idea on cost. Mine is on the way out. Solenoid is sticking. Is taking up to 4 attempts with the ignition key to get it to engage.
Just got rid of the charging problem, and now the friggen starter.

Hi Goose,
Name a price that would be persuasive enough for you to part with it
I can collect if necessary, up until 3pm. When is a good time to call?
It looks a bitch to change. The gearbox doesn't need draining to change it does it? Just that it looks like theres a gasket where it mounts on.

Its not a gasket, theres a steel plate between the box and the engine... the starter bolts through it too... just undo the heavy (starter 12V feed) wire and unplug the light (solenoid trigger) wire then undo the two bolts (14mm heads from memory)
Do the heavy wire first as its normally tight and a bugger to undo if you've removed the starter already...
You might need to use about 47 socket extensions and a wobble-drive bit and come up from underneath to get one of them from memory...

Yup, Steve is dead right, they're a bastard to remove..... not so bad if you take your time and have a little patience
I'm on holiday, and at home. I'll be going out around 4pm, so gimmie a ring anytime
as for price, I dont know..... i'll make sure it's cheaper than buying it elsewhere
PS, Just had a look on trademe, cheapest there is buynow of $60, most expensive is $140!!! (must be gold plated
) sooooo, cheaper than $60......

Chocolate fish award for pointing out the glaring ommision

Theres nothing quite so funny as watching a 16mm wire with a 12V lead acid battery capable of spitting 600 or more amps straight through it and into whatever it randomly shorted against

OOOOWWWWWEEEEEE!!!!!
but yes, yes of course I would remember to disconnect the battery.... would I forget something as important as that???

Hi Goose,
I have managed to get a new set of contacts for next to nothing, and will have a go at replacing these first, along with a good clean. It will be a good learning curve for me also. If it doesn't fix it it, then Ill call you about offloading your starter. Hope thats OK.
