Ok lads, I ask this question on the understanding that one day I will use the answer while completly pissed at a party/ pub :drunken: while trying to impress sombody with my knowlwdge of the sharp end of my shiny.
Question is; $ for $, Horsepower for Horsepower, is it better to Supercharge or Turbo?
Broad question I know or I think I know so just rattle off a bit of gibberish :headshot:

A mate in oz used to run a supercharger in his GQ, but then went to a turbo and got MUCH bigger performance gains from it.
This was on a diesel engine, and he found that a properly designed turbo on a diesel will have bugger all lag, as it will spool up a lot quicker, after all, its no use having one that is only good above 3000rpm, doesnt really leave too much room before red line.
Being a cheap arse, I'm looking at using a super charger from a 4agze, as they dont cost much, and any gain is better than none. (and I must agree, supercharged sounds much better than turboed)

He might of had more performance at the top end? But I would of thought more performance at the low end would be where it's at for off road? And like Mike says, you get performance all through the rev range. No wait, it's there as soon as you put your foot up it.

Pulley sizes and compression is a real biggie getting the most out of a supercharger. Well that's what me and me bro have found supercharging a Subaru motor.
