Hi, thanks for your interest.

So far, I have mounted/installed the DIY air fuel ratio meter, fuel pressure regulator and have made most of the mount for the supercharger.

However, most of it had been put on hold for the last couple of months, because I just moved down to Invercargill and bought a house, and I couldn't have a car in parts for the move. But now we are settled in, I will carry on from where I was.

We had tried to mount the second pulley on the power steering pulley, but it didn't line up right, and was wobbling quite a bit, so we took it off. I may have to get a new one machined up or at least balanced properly so that I don't end up with something flying around in the engine bay.

Supercharging Project

Post by NuSkewdy »

Hey they, I'm supercharging my 8 Valve Escudo.

Keen on what you're making up for the brackets and pulleys.
Above the exhaust seems quite Do-able but I have decided to look at at SC14 instead of an SC12. They pump 1.4L every rpm which should run about 12-13PSI and I'll intercool it which should be fine.

I hear the compression ratio is 8.9:1 factory.

Do you have any pics of your brackets etc?

Hi,

Don't forget the SC14 is a lot heavier than the 12, so you are likely to need stronger mounts etc. But the amount of boost it produces can be adjusted with different pulleys.

I will get some pics of the mounts I have at the moment. The biggest thing for me was where to put the mounts. I have used the bolts for the ac pump for one end, and there is a bolt hole down on the block beneath the manifold for the other one. (for the bottom)

I am still not sure what I will use for the top, and I want it to be adjustable to be able to tension the belt properly.

Where are you going to run your belt from?

After having a look at it, the best idea seems to replace the double-pulley on the crank with a triple and bin the radiator fan, replacing with thin electric one. Then the 3rd pulley might make it directly to the supercharger. I'm most concerned with the fuel requirements. I don't think the factory injector will be big enough. Have to have a look at that.

Bit more thought needed before I start the work. The Sc14 is the same dimensions as the SC12 but 4cm longer. No issues, don't think they weigh that much more, but 120-150KW should be possible with it. Much better than the factory 70KW.

Keen to see your new pics of the bracket. Can you add them soon?

Haha, don't expect much though!! They are pretty rough at the moment, as it was mostly just trial and error.

But I will put the pics up after the weekend, as I am off to Qtown for some snowboarding!!

Have you got the SC14 already? What do the rotors look like?

you will need to do some serious work to get this amount of power and be reliable nuskewdy[/quote]

I think we should be find making at least 120KW. The only concern would be piston temps and as long as its intercooled and not too lean on the lambda, it should be fine. Head gasket looks like it will be replaced with a thicker one anyway. Possibly solid copper.

I have been lookin for Dyno figures for supercharged 8 valve motors but haven't been successful yet. I'd like to ceramic top the pistons but I'm confident that if the air/fuel distribution is right for all 4 cylinders then it will be fine.

Thats why I was looking for a multi-point manifold so you can trim the injectors individually if the lambda reading is uneven across the headers. Will make a lambda sensor fitting into the headers in each pipe, then do lambda check at 6psi and trim it to make them all read 0.7 to 0.8. Then fit the lambda sensor back in original place later.

Normal lambda reading ASSUME even distribution. One cylinder could be running lean or too rich which should ideally be trimmed out. Also makes more power this way. Only a small job to drill and fit a nut onto the headers. Lots of motors go bang because one cylinder flows more/less than the others causing this problem. Also manifold design can affect it.

I don't expect any engine damage to result if the exhaust temps are good.
