Beginner- Landcruiser 70 series
Hi all,
First I wanna introduce myself. I am Markus and we relocated from Germany last year. Since a friend took me along to a 4WD trip I am infected with the 4WD virus. It was really great. Now I am looking for a decent 4WD for a beginnner to join a club to learn how to drive offroad.
I like the old squared shaped Landcruiser 70 series. At trademe I found the following cruiser:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=108899332&key=369726
Of course I wanna have a look at the car first, before bid for it.
What are you guys thinking about this car? Is the price reasonable?
Cheers
Markus

@ Chch locals:
I had a look at the car dealers in town but I couldnt find something similar!
Do you have any ideas where to look?
Hard to find a good one in CHCH for a good price, most are being sold by carl dealers who just have stupid prices o nthem. I had to go all the way to invercargill to get mine.
Depends how much $$$ you want to spend on it, consider that its going to be going offroad as well so its not going to remain a shiny truck either.
Best option is to have a look at the different vehicles on the next ORE or club trips, see how they go, how they suit your space requirements, will it fit kids (if you have them) is your missus comfortable in it? What mods can you do to it, parts supply? engine reliability?.
Look at TM for buys as well, drag someone knowllegable around to look at it, perhaps there are ones for sale in ORE & clubs down there. Dealers usually want top dollar plus more for anything on their lot.
Depends if you want it as a daily driver as well....If you want something cheap look at a Landcruiser (although these seem to go for stupidly high prices at times), or a Nissan Safari (Patrol), or a Terrano or a Jeep, can pick up cheap disco's (discovery) ..... each vehicle has its good and bad points

I own one of these... They are very capable 4x4. If you want to spend more money on it, you can't do better....

If you get a stock one then you will need to budget for a set of mud tyres and rims $1500, Snorkel $300-500, Decent suspension you are looking from $1500-$3000, Kaneys one has already had the 2.4 head done so there shouldn't be any worries there...
PM him and have a look.......

Thanks for your help guys !
I will use the car as my daily driver as well. As I am not an expert/mechanic in cars I am looking for a well maintained cruiser.
Jerry, this one looks very good!

I am wondering whether I (1.95m tall) fit in the car or not?

Give the guy a call and go and have a look at it, see if you like it, see if someone on here who is a mechanical typr can go along with you, his number is listed 021 454197. you should be able to fit in ... otherwise just stick your head out the window

The coil and leaf 70 Series are completely different vehicles, they have different chassis and running gear, it's not really a case of early models having leafs and late models having coils.

Looks to be a SWB with a cut down MWB FRP top on it. was originally a ragtop by the sound of it.
Nice looking wee truck tho. I doubt you'll have any trouble with height esp with a FRP top. I have heaps of room to bounce round in mine and I'm 6ft
Hi Markus (Hennes),
Welcome to NZ and ORE,
I have had a little bit of experience with 70 series Landcruisers

I would like to share some of my experience with you in helping you to get a suitable vehicle that will get you out on the trail with this lot (you could be sorry).
Feel free to give me a call to talk or go and have a look at vehicles.

Guys,
thats really a nice forum. Thanks for your help again.
@Jerry
The auction for the white cruiser ended on Monday morning.
I couldnt make to have a look at this car.
On Tuesday I had a look at the cruiser mentioned in my first posting. It is really well maintained, but there was little rubber on both wheel sets.
The deal was 12k without the mudtyres. Thats definetely to much.
@Smokey
Thanks for the welcome and the help. I will give a call soon.
Cheers
