Taking radiator out

Hi guys, I'm Just after a run down on the best way to remove a radiator. I know it should be a relatively simple procedure, but i have not done it before and have to do in the the radiator specialists workshop tomorrow so i don't really want to make an ass of myself by stuffing it up. Also any thing i should be aware of when putting it back in. Any help and advice is much appreciated.

I have only done this on a couple of different vehicles.
I have found that the best place to start is open the drain valve on the bottom and then unbolt the fan. most come off with only 4 bolts and the belts should stay put, I put a couple of nuts back on to keep the pulley there.
In some vehicles you can get to the bottom hose from the top, on my bighorn I had to take off the bash plate and get to it from below.
Disconnect the hose to the header tank
then if needed unbolt the cowling, some times you don't need to.
then there is commonly 2 bolts down each side holding the radiator in.
Some of them sit on a hook on each side so once the bolts are out lift it straight up.
others tip towards the motor before you can lift it out.

Only thing you really have to watch out for is damaging the cooling fins or tubes. It doesn't take much to fold the fins down or pierce a hole in a tube. Otherwise go for it. :wink:

Yeah it well. thanks for your advice. It fought me a bit on the way out, but went back like a dream. I swear the Japanese must have small hands, because there some extremely tight spots I had to get my hands into :shock: - but the trucks back and running nice and cool. I would also like to thank Auto-Kool Radiator Specialists, Dunedin for for suggesting I do my own labour. Helps keep the cost down for us slightly hard up, but 4wd keen students. Every bit helps.
