oh cheers mate. I wondered if I could get away with 60mm, seeing the amount of work you have done makes me confident that i can get away with it. Thanks

I have seen some really shitty lift kits around, most of the ones i have seen , they supply these black plastic cylindrical tube things , i reck'n your better off just buying some Hi-tensile/ Hardened steel threaded rod & nuts & washers and buying some rubber blocks with holes in them from a truck parts place, etc & making it to suit , doing it that way & keep it lookn as stock lookn , as lift kit can possibley look !

My 2C's worth

muddyHilux >> funnly enough i was thinkn about doing similar with the Alu blocks a wee while ago , by making some templates off the old mounts & gettn some 1-2" inch thick plate Aluminuim laser cut , if you had access to a metal bandsaw you'd be laughing , good to see your photo's & how they come up ?

what do you need to laser cut?? A body lift is done with 50-60mm rod, alloy, UHMWPE, or whatever with a 10-12mm hole drilled through it. How easy do you want it to be

All depends what finish your after, if you have a shitbox & don't give a shit then get the pieces of bone's & toy's your dog has eaten that are in the backyard & plonk em in there OR if you want a professional job - then get the plates laser cut all "Precise & accurate" !

I used UHMWPE rod for my two surfs, cost about $70.
I have done a few mates wagon using nylon rod too. On a heavier wagon I would think about drilling out the holes a bit bigger and fitting a crush tube to give a bit more strength.
I used 60mm diameter rod and lifts of either 50 or 60 mm. any higher and you get into issues with steering column in a hilux/surf. also the fuel filler hoses aren't long enough to reach any further. The hand brake cable can get a bit tight against the firewall also.

umm why go to all that effort when for 100bux you can buy 1meter of 2" aluminium billet, face off, drill, chamfer and part off all done in a lathe, doesnt even take 40min to make ten of them and thats just cruising through mate. that'll give you a beautifull result.

I think I said something like this on damn near your first ever post here, and I've pretty much thought it ever since... you're an idiot.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about, so here's a little bit of info about the "bones and toys". The "black plastic cylindrical tube things" you referred to are generally machined from UV-stabilised Ultra-high-molecular-weight-polyethylene. Done properly they are faced off and centre-drilled in a lathe for accuracy, and they are strong. If you are worried about the strength do some google research... have you heard of them breaking? Most likely not - I haven't and I've used them for years.

Having said that there is nothing wrong with using Ali rod either - although at least with UHMWPE rod there is no chance of galvanic corrosion occurring.

And why laser cut plate when you can buy it in rod off the shelf? Thats just a huge waste of time, money and material.

Ok, enough said. Just remember to engage your brain before opening your mouth

correct as i see it supralux and engineer, which is what i happen to be sop im doin exactly that, buy ther alloy, ill be cuttin it in a auto saw, about a .3 skimm, centre drill and then drill right threw, flip it over, skim again, sori forgot the champher bits and its done, like u say engineer, bout 40mins work, theres nothing hard about that, cheap as chips, and as for the sizes ive decided on 2.5"diameter by 3" high, fuel tank hose lenght im gaon sort by moving my tank which also clears the arms better and steering im just talking to cert man bout that at present, heres some picks, for now its just lifted on wooden spacers so i can get the rough height and then i can space everything properly,im in no rush coz im still workin on the blown eng problem

this is before

and this is roughly what it willend up as

Will be interested to see how you move your tank. Looks to be a bit of an arse in a 130 as the mount for the panhard? is in the way. I moved mine in my 84 surf by bolting the tank to the top rail of the chassis crossmember at the front of the tank, the holes are already there for it . And just chopped the the rear bracket and lifted it to match the front. Worked a treat with a 60mm body lift.
