kzn130 surf body lift

Post by rangimotors »

hey guys with the order of my new tyres (KL71 33's) thought it was about time for a body lift, going 50mm by 60mm blocks (50 high) anything special i need to no? think rear brake line will be a bit short but everything else hopefully will reach?? need to shoot into blacks to grab the bolts which brings the next question what size do i need? any anything else to do tyhe job? havent done one before but looks simple enough

Spray CRC on the bolts you have to undo now and again tomorrow! and maybe every second dat till you need to undo them, Toyotoa uses a special sieze spray on them  we snapped off a couple before we broke the socket and I went easy on the 1/2" bar

Also you shouldn't have to change the brake lines untill you go out 4wding (next day) saves bleeding them the day of the body lift ;) and as a cheat you can move the hard line point down 50mm and not do it at all ;)

the only real issue may be the gear leaver you may need to extend and bend abit not always but some need clearancing can't remember if this was the Surf or something else?

ok sweet cheers for that, mine is an auto.. does that change anything? if i can get away not changing brake lines it would be cool, will probably be a few weeks till i can do it unless i can get some help/spare working arms from my mates. are all the bolts the same length? eg can i pull one of my current ones out measure it add 50mm and go and buy 10? or are they different sizes

the rear (2 or 4 cant remember) bolts are longer. breaks should be fine. front bumper will need undoing as it is mounted to the chassis and partly the body. the fuel filler might need lengthened, mine lasted afew months before it popped off at a petrol station and gas went all over the ground.

be very careful of the steering!! there is a slip joint that most people just slacken off and leave it at that but there is still abit of pressure on the steering shaft and if you take one of the joints apart it probably won't fit back together again. to over come this you will need to get a longer shaft and cut it down to the right size (the longer ones are too long). thought this is technically illegal i think.... make it look stock. as a temp fix (was ok for a year before i finally got round to making a new shaft) you can just get some longer bolts and space out the rubber joint at the steering box with washes.

For most people it is fine to just slacken the joint but afew weeks after my lift i lost all steering when a joint up inbehind the steering wheel gave way. just be careful.
