Hey guys,
Just thought i would let you know that on the 3rd and 4th of November there is a low-key winch challenge being run by the Whangarei club. There are two classes - Challenge Class being full on winch challenge trucks and a Club class where you DON'T need roll cages or harnesses etc, just current WOF and REG and 3rd party insurance. At this stage entry fee will be around the $50 mark, there will be limited numbers.
If you are intrested contact Darin Neeley at darin.neeley@roostmortgages.co.nz

Whangarei Winch Challenge
From the Whangarei club magazine:
2007 Northland 4x4 Challenge
Venue: South End Ave, Whangarei
Date: 3&4 November
Entry Fee:
It is planned that the entry fee will be less than $50, but this will not be confirmed until the beginning of October. Entry forms and payment will be required by 19/10/2007. The entry fee is to cover costs only. Every effort will be made to keep the costs to a minimum but the competitors will be expected to cover all costs associated with this event.
Concept:
This a low key 4x4 Challenge open to all NZFWDA members. It is designed to provide a chance for people to have a go at a Challenge and to enable existing competitors to have a practice in a competitive environment. It will also enable people to test themselves on similar tracks to the competition trucks. We will be using basically the same tracks as used for the 2006 Northland Challenge.
Classes:
Competition class will be run to normal 4x4 Challenges rules except they will only be required to have a current WOF. (As opposed to one less than 28 days old). Club class will be for any 4x4 vehicle that has a current WOF, registration, mud tyres and winch. Club class do not require a roll cage or harnesses and they can use wire rope. HOWEVER, ALL other rules apply.
Plan:
The general idea is to effectively run 2 separate competitions at the same time.
The tracks will be slightly different for Club class due the safety issues. Ie we will remove the high speed and more demanding sections. It is envisaged that a Club class truck will be able to complete the competition without any damage, BUT that is dependant on the driver and WILL not be guaranteed. Drivers beware.
Competition class will compete on track as per a normal challenge. Again, the plan is to be able to complete the event without damage, this will be up to the driver.
Administration:
All teams will need to be scrutinised between 4pm and 9pm on Friday 2 November unless other arrangements are made PRIOR the event. Port-a-loos will be provided on site but nothing else will be provided. We will ask for permission to camp on site and this will be confirmed closer to the date. If camping is available, it will be on a 100% self sufficient basis. We will provide toilet facilities only.
We will arrange wash down facilities for vehicles as no vehicles will be allowed off site unless clean. We will use standard 4x4 Challenges scoring system however we reserve the right to modify things to provide for the Club class.
Rules:
2007 4x4 Challenges rules will be used. Unless otherwise stated, those rules will apply. Where a conflict between 4x4 Challenges and event rules occur, the Event Committee will make a ruling.
In addition the following will also apply.
When using wire rope, a dampener must always be in the centre third of the rope.
If a Club class vehicle rolls, meaning ‘most’ of its weight is not on the wheels, then it must be scrutinised before it continues. If necessary it will be given a stop and start time to allow this to happen. Ie it may not complete the stage until passed but it will not be penalised for this.
If more than one team is on a stage and a delay is encountered, then a stop time will be given to one of the teams. The other team will be given the opportunity to continue the stage without delay. The team given the stop time will be required to wait with their truck until directed to start again. They may work on the truck other than to maintain essential running. Ie temperature. If they wish to work on the truck then a start time will be given but if they finish the work they will not be allowed to commence the stage (and so will get an other stop time) until directed
by the stage manager.
A team can protest a call, but they can not discuss or argue the call with the official.
All discussion will take place in the presence of an event committee member or the team will be disqualified from the stage.
Prize Giving:
A prize giving BBQ will be provided at the end of Sunday. BYO drinks.
