Leafs

Post by cruiser_beast »

Hey everyone.

Just enquiring about leaf springs on a 1985 toyota landcruiser. Im looking at buying one, and was wandering if there were ways to improve the leafs. They looked a big saggy, is there a way to have them re-sprung and a bit of a lift as well??

Also how do you achieve a better reach with a leaf spring??

Am i posting these topics in the right section?haha.Put me in my place if i should be somewhere else.

Hi cruiser,

Your doing fine with regards to the topic locations. Alas I personally can't shed any light on your cruiser questions as I'm a landrover owner  But I'm sure someone will answer them soon enuff

Best way to improve leaf springs?

Replace with coils. But then you will need the right diff for them to fit, I recommend the Range Rover rear end.
Ah, but this will only fit to a Range Rover Chassi which of course bolts up to a Range rover body and then.....

Just jokes.
For leafs it is much the same as coils, you can get after market ones eg. ARB, TJM etc or get the originals reset from a good suspension shop.

Really it comes down to a. what do you want the suspension to do?
and b. how much do you want to pay?

Im just a poor university student:) so probably just getting them re-set sounds the cheapest??am i right on that note??

Can you recomend any outstanding spring shops that can re-set them?

Also ill stick to the landcruisers and leave your range rover parts alone

Where you from? as someone on this site will know a good suspension shop near you.
And I will say that them cruiser's can be fairly good beasts. (ahhh did I just say that! now the Rangie is bound to break down just to teach me)

My advice is to study harder and spend less time in here... you are going to need a really good high paying job to pay for that cruiser down the track :D

Yes you are heading in the right direction with resetting the leaves - it is cheaper in the short term.

You may want to get a recomendation on this forum:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/nz4wd/

Plenty of die-hard Cruiser fans there and lots of Club members [you are a club member right?]. Clubs are a great way to get insider runnning on parts and suppliers...

Good luck and study really really hard.... remember A++ means a better offroader....
