It is a new look, but I've got these "boxes" on the left side of my explorer page partially obscurring the posts.

I can't easily adjust my screen resolution as I'm using a laptop that really only likes 1200*800.

How can I adjust the size of these boxes?

Thanks in advance

hold ctrl and click refresh or shift and refresh.

Thanks, ctrl-refresh fixed the LHS of the screen.

Gotta say, and i mean this in the nicest possible way Mike.

it's looks like poo's, my screen sometimes can only see half the topic, at other times it's ok, but generally it looks like a big brown steamer

I take it this is a work in progress still as i know you only do quality work, like on your Land Rover aye

No Sir, no ring-a-ding repairs around here

I was having problems with the new layout (not) displaying properly in firefox, after a little searching I found this general guide for fixing the appearance of sites in Firefox. Just thought others might find the info helpful too.

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Websites+look+wrong

Resetting the zoom sure solved all my problems.

by the way, thanks Mike for doing such an awesome job with this site, I may not have posted much in the last few years I've been here (understatement) but can't go very long without visiting or I get withdrawal systems!. :D

Thanks for posting that link. looks useful. I think bubba needs to visit that and do each one

I have added a few more menu items right next to the forums button at the top. One for view new posts, one for private messages and one for search forums. I have removed the blocks on the left side as we dont need those while the forums are open and looking at view new posts. Your not the only ones experiencing heavy load through this new setup, the poor server is struggling to keep up. Another reason i turned those blocks off is to reduce the load while in forum pages and also to increase the width to help those with tiny screens.

hopefully that will temporarily fix those image issues. I will implement some server caching of the php script so the server isnt struggling so much during peak times. This may cause some known side effects ("white screen of death and perhaps the odd error") but the server will be considerably faster.

right back to it.

mike

The forums not being cut off anymore. I didn't even have the little pm box on the sidebars. Cheers for sticking it in the top run of options. Everything seems sweet now. Are all the different font colours necessary??

Good work though.

your not wrong there, it would have taken me ages to find all these bugs and attempt to fix them. Supralux has been assisting with some of the css stuff which is good. The more you guys find, the more I fix and the better the site becomes.

got a big one to deal with next from what curly tells me  We'll get there in the end though

Mike, can we make the profile buttons at the bottom of the posts larger or clearer to read please? The PM, MSN ones.
Oh and the font colours, can this be like a drop down list or similar.
No rush.

Well I just put a turbo on the ore server. Should hopefully keep the load down on the server. Initial timings show a 2 fold in the number of requests it can handle. One side effect is people may sometimes get a blank screen (should be very very rare and only at peak times) this just means the turbo skipped a beat (seg faulted causing the web server to hang)

hopefully that should fix some load times for people.

Thanks Mike for reinstating my account. Seems my password went awol in some of the changes and I wasn't recognised. Thanks to Euan for playing pass the message.

OK, like the site changes at a basic level and no doubt things'll get fine-tuned. One thing I'd like to see changed or information on how to change it is the default setting of dark grey text on a light grey background in all the messages. Makes for hard reading I think. More contrast between letter colour and page background would be awesome.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for letting us all know about the PM part...

Can you suggest a fix for receiving the same message as SKID in email notifications, in the Subject line I am receiving notification that there is a response to a threat that I am watching and then in the actual message I am being informed of it again, (just like SKID above, I have added in red the SUBJECT line and MESSAGE it's self)

Cheers in advance
