Site upgrade - New Features

Post by mike »

I upgraded the site tonight and just posting this and another message have discovered a couple of new features,
1) being those ugly font colour things to the right, came up real big on my screen. hold down ctrl and press refresh (F5 on most browsers) or shift and refresh. should do the trick.

2) I clicked save instead of submit, save is like a draft of your post. New feature, unexpected but could be good for some of those longer posts.

thats all im going to attempt to find tonight. If you find something new post it in here so we all can see.

the view new posts button is on the right at the top now.

the front page will come back soon with the whats new on the site ie vids, tracks, builds, forum stuff, news, events and forum stuff.

I've turned that pesky captcha check off on the login, it only exists on the register block. Just watch out for spam and if you do find spam use the report this post link in the post.

Internal links wont be working just yet, I will fix those tomorrow.

Looks good Mike. Just finding thou that it is cutting the righthand side of some threads off so you can't read all the postings

Looks nice so far Mike although the font colours could not be turned off / removed on my Mozilla Firefox Ubuntu set-up'd PC  as per th screen shot.
The txt box to type a message in is too small.
Or am I missing something here?

yer I have the same issue as Pete, monster sized Font colour panels, on Firefox (on xp).
refresh was no help. I cant find the "view posts since last visit" button either.

Another issue is the email notifications are HUGE, also missing is he "mark forums as read" button.
Now, some of you will say, stop moaning etc. I'm not, just simply pointing out some differences I have encountered.

I never knew you were that nerdy Pete?! Next you'll be telling me that PC in your garage connects to your media server so you can play the 10,000,000 songs in your MP3 library while building PC's or 4WDs :)

Oh, and the colourblock is incredibly annoying - when writing a PM the text window is about 1/3 of the size of the post in the forum one. Also, there is a drupal option to turn off forcing a preview before posting - I had this with 4wdstuff as well... annoyed the heck out of me till I found it. Otherwise the integration is slick... I can see where its going, and while its not there yet, you're definitely on the right track - awesome stuff Mike :)

 Sorry Mike - just a personal thing - I hate that left side panel taking up 23% of my laptop screen - but thanks for all your hard work

What I see on my laptop

ie the forum posts fonts are smaller than the bullet points on the left making it un-balanced and difficult to read

Takes a while to figure change but everyone adapts after a while.

Couple of comments from me.

The space per thread taken up in the listing of new threads and in the categories is pretty big so you have to do lots of scrolling, a tight tidy list as per before would be nice for quick browsing.

In the submit new message box the smilies take up more of the screen that the side bar and the box you type in goes right off the screen and the font colours thing is out of sight.

Also is it possible to have quick reply on the bottom of the threads rather than going to the special screen???

yet again you have exceeded your awesomeness

few issues though

I wanted to quote 2 of the posts in this thread, but I couldn't coz the right side of the screen is cut off.

Also it seems really slow to load pages now (on broadband), before you would click on submit and within 2-3 seconds the next page would be there, now its taking anywhere from 7-12 seconds to load the next page

Also just noticed whilst I am typing this, that the new forum posts etc etc thingy on the left is overlaying the whole page, so its cutting off the smilies and the right side of page is still missing.............

New layout is great. A lot easier to read and navigate once you get used to it. :)

What's happened?

It is a new look, but I've got these "boxes" on the left side of my explorer page partially obscurring the posts.

The boxes are my account settings, new forum posts, new forum topics, who is chatting, online forum users.

I can't easily adjust my screen resolution as I'm using a laptop that really only likes 1200*800.

How can I adjust the size of these boxes?

Thanks in advance
